. Much success can be noted in the fight against GMOs, when India start the new year with a law requiring all products containing GMOs must be labeled as from 1 January 2013. Decision was driven by the fact that so many foods in India comes from countries where a large part of the crops are genetically engineered, especially from the U.S., Canada, Argentina and Brazil.
The only GM crop that is planted on a commercial basis in India is known as "Bt cotton". Bt crops are engineered to produce the plant and insect venom extensively throughout the growing season, thus poisoning the soil and water systems even more than when crops are sprayed.
Genetic engineering enterprises rampage in India has led to the Indian peasantry groaning under the loan, which they have to buy their seeds.
